The VASCERN Vascular Anomalies (VASCA) Working Group has formulated a statement concerning SARS-CoV-2 vaccination for patients with vascular malformations
General statement:
- Follow the national safety advice for social distancing, mask-wearing etc.
- Vaccination is important for the whole population but it remains your own choice.
Recommendation for vaccination
1. The national guidelines concerning vaccination are leading.
2. In case of severe forms of vascular malformations we, however, recommend vaccination as the combination of COVID-19 might increase tromboflebitis in lesions. Consult your treating physician or a general practitioner if you have any additional questions.
Contraindications for vaccination of patients with vascular malformations
There are no contraindications for vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 for patients with vascular malformations. Taking Sirolimus is not considered as a contraindication for vaccination either (irrespective of whether it is one of the mRNA based vaccines (Moderna/Pfizer) or whether it is the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine).
